Manager - Internal Audit
AICPA (that's us)
Durham, NC
Same thing, different day? Never heard of it, says Vivian Spencer. “My days are completely different,” she says. “Every day brings a new challenge. I’m always meeting new people, and learning different parts of the business.”
Vivian is an internal auditor for the American Institute of CPAs. That means she spends most of her time helping make sure the organization is running smoothly from a financial and operational perspective. It also gives her a unique perspective – not a lot of people have the opportunity to see the organization from every angle.
As a high school senior, Vivian started out thinking she would major in computer science. But after taking an accounting class, she knew she had found her calling. “I like the analytical side of accounting. If your debits don’t equal your credits, you know something’s off. It’s like putting a puzzle together. That’s why I get excited about accounting.” And after five years as a CPA, it all adds up for Vivian.
Years as a CPA: 7
