Theodore Sarenski

President & CEO
Blue Ocean Strategic Capital, LLC
Syracuse, NY

In high school, Theodore Sarenski’s guidance counselors pushed him to be an engineer. But he had something different in mind. “I wanted a broader, more flexible career,” he says. So in college, he pursued a degree in accounting.

It was a good move. Today, Theodore is an author and radio and television personality, sought after for his insights on finance and tax topics, and he’s the President and CEO of his own firm. “I’ve conducted hundreds of radio interviews over the last three years, and I have a regular TV appearance on our local NBC affiliate,” he says. Whether or not your plan includes time in front of the camera, Theodore says becoming a CPA is a great place to start. “If you want the best springboard to a multitude of business jobs and opportunities, become a CPA,” he says.

Media appearances aside, Theodore’s work with clients is still the best thing about his job. “I love the sincere appreciation you get from clients when you’ve helped make their financial life clearer for them and better in the future,” he says.

Part of Theodore’s success is thanks to his openness – to clients, employees, job seekers, whoever. “My door is always open,” he says. “Not just my office door, but my email door and my Twitter door as well!”
