Sharon Lechter is motivated, passionate and dedicated. Oh, and really successful. She is an entrepreneur, author, philanthropist, educator, international speaker, CPA, mother and grandma. Whew!
But when she started college, Sharon wasn’t sure what path she wanted to take in life. She knew that she would “learn a lot about how to build a successful business by starting in accounting.” So during her junior year, she decided to major in accounting. And she’s never looked back.
After school, she went straight into public accounting where she had the opportunity to “learn from both the success and failures of others and gain insight not just into accounting, but business in general.”
Then, at 26, Sharon “got the entrepreneurial bug.” So she started to build her own companies. She “was able to combine my experience as a CPA and my experience in publishing with my passion as a parent and dedicated my life to the pursuit of financial literacy for all.”
She started a company called Pay Your Family First, which is a financial education organization. “My life today is dedicated to financial literacy, not only as an author and entrepreneur, but as a CPA as well,” Sharon says. “We can really make a difference and empower teens and families to build brighter and sustainable futures. I love each time a young person’s eyes light up when they see new possibilities for their future as a result of financial education.”
While staying busy with her company, Sharon managed to find some time to co-author Three Feet From Gold and Rich Dad Poor Dad, as well as 14 other Rich Dad books.
Looks like Sharon found the perfect recipe for success: equal parts passion and motivation with a side of dedication.
Years as a CPA: 34
Best job: Owning my own business
Worst job: Being in business with someone who was unethical
Hobbies outside of work: Reading, writing, scuba diving and entertaining
Pets: 500 Black Angus cattle, 30 horses and 2 Australian Shepherds named Bode and Bear
Words to live by: So many times we ask, “Why try something?” Instead ask yourself, “Why NOT try something?” When I made the decision to go into the entrepreneurial world, it was because I asked, “Why not?”
