Orchestrating lots of activities at once comes pretty naturally to Sandy Towey – before her career as a CPA, she used to be an Air Traffic Controller. Used to be.
“Working for the government wasn’t for me,” she says. And sure enough, today she’s her own boss, having launched her own consulting firm in 1994. She does everything from securing financing for her clients to negotiating agreements, finding top talent, analyzing options and on and on.
Her life outside the office is just as varied. “I'm a real estate broker, a private pilot and I have a motorcycle license,” she boasts. “I like to explore other countries; I've learned French and studied Spanish. I'm into canoeing, hiking, skiing, biking, golf, camping, gardening, snowshoeing and most any other outside activity.” Phew.
She also volunteers heavily, and is very active in organizations such as Goodwill Industries, the Turnaround Management Association and Easter Seals.
Interested in packing your life just as full as Sandy has packed hers? Take a tip: “An accounting degree and CPA credential will become your core expertise and open the doors to virtually any industry or career path,” she says. “You’re limited only by your own ambition and ability to dream.”
