Director Recruiting Operations and Diversity
Eisner LLP
New York, NY
Heads up. Here’s the guy who might just be giving you a job a few years from now.
Ron Taylor leads recruiting operations and diversity efforts at his accounting firm Eisner LLP. It’s his job to find the best and brightest minds to join his company.
So what does he look for? “It's important to get the technical side, of course, but it’s just as important to have the social skills for talking to clients,” he says. “It has to be somebody who can understand a client’s challenges beyond the numbers.”
He also stresses that candidates should be flexible. Regulations and policies change all the time, so Ron also wants a CPA who can stay ahead of the latest developments. It’s a tall order, for sure, but if you fit this description of a technically savvy, socially skilled, well-rounded and well-informed individual, the rewards are great.
“A career in accounting will open doors you never even knew existed,” he says. “It creates options you can use in endless ways.”
As one more incentive for becoming the type of candidate Ron is after, consider this: “I have never heard someone say they regretted getting their CPA. I seriously doubt I ever will.”
Years as a CPA: 9
Worst job: Gardener
Hobbies outside of work: Golf, golf, and more golf
Pets: 2-year-old black and tan Dachshund
Words to live by: "The quest in life is not to be successful, it's to be significant."
