Rebecca Faris

Technical Manager
AICPA (that’s us)
Durham, NC

Rebecca Faris never felt pressure to specialize in just one thing. “I love variety,” she says. “My goal has always been to become a jack-of-all-trades.” That may explain her long list of interests and experiences. Beach volleyball player. Chair of her church finance committee. Hiker of the Swiss Alps. Real estate investor. Rider of camels in Egypt. Drummer. And that’s just the beginning.

It’s an approach to life that’s perfect for Rebecca’s job as well. Her title – Technical Manager at the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) – doesn’t even begin to describe all the things she may do in a given day. For starters, she works directly with CPAs who have received a complaint of some sort, investigating whether the complaints are valid. “I also make recommendations on the cases and oversee remediation,” she says. “I love that I am able to contribute to the profession in a meaningful manner,” she says.

True to her nature, Rebecca came to the AICPA after trying out a wide variety of different accounting jobs. “I started out in private accounting and then jumped into public accounting,” she says. “I hopped from a big firm to a small firm to a medium-sized firm, all while trying to find balance between my personal and professional life.” Today she says she’s found the right spot. “The field of accounting has given me a skill that I have not only been able to apply to my career, but to my life as well.”
