Jeffrey Whittaker likes being in demand. And that’s why he became a CPA. “I always felt accountants were the most respected professionals in the business community,” he says. “With an accounting background you can go into just about any field and get a job. You have instant credibility.”

Jeffrey has built on that credibility in a wide range of fields. His CPA certification has taken him from real estate development to the telecommunications industry and now into his own firm, which he started in 2006.

He loves the variety his job brings. “My days are never the same,” Jeffrey says. "I work with for-profit companies, not-for-profit companies and a lot of individuals. I’m able to pick who I work with and when I work with them. I can work from home or at the office. There’s never a dull moment.” Being in demand doesn’t stop at the office for Jeffrey, either. “I serve on the board of a new hospital and have been appointed to a number of positions in city government,” he says. “Being a CPA has opened up a lot of opportunities I would have never even imagined.”
