BankPlus Professor of Accountancy
Jackson State University
Jackson, MS
Dr. Quinton Booker fell in love in high school.
He fell in love with accounting. “I took a bookkeeping course in high school and fell in love with debits and credits and everything related to debits and credits,” he says. And it’s been love ever since.
After he graduated high school, Dr. Booker continued to nurture his relationship and majored in accounting in college. But he didn’t stop there. After his undergraduate degree, he went on to get his Master’s in Accountancy and then earned his CPA credential.
Even though he achieved all those qualifications, Dr. Booker wasn’t done with school, and certainly not accounting. After earning his Ph.D., Dr. Booker returned to the classroom, but this time, as a teacher. He has taught accounting courses at the undergrad, master and doctoral levels, as well as continuing education courses for CPAs. The CPA credential is “a badge of achievement,” he says. “It lets others know that you have arrived.”
Now, he’s helping others “arrive” by sharing his passion with students. Dr. Booker is a Professor of Accountancy and chairman of the department of accounting at Jackson State University where he introduces the same inspiration to his students that he once received early in his life.
Dr. Booker doesn’t only share his passion in the classroom though. He’s authored or coauthored more than 25 articles in various journals.
And the best part of it all, he says, “I get paid for doing stuff that I like doing.”
How about it, do you feel like falling in love?
