Heinfeld Meech & Co. P.C.
When Nancy Meech joined her boss at the time to start a new company, she didn’t just want the company to be successful. She wanted to dispel the stereotype of the “typical” CPA.
So in addition to Founding Partner, she took on another title. “I am the Partner in Charge of Fun,” she says. “I make sure there are plenty of fun activities going on all the time inside and outside the firm.” She also emphasizes how much fun the job itself can be when her team is helping make a difference for their clients every day.
Her approach is working. For five years in a row, her company has been named to the list of Best Small Companies to Work For in America. Just as important, since starting the company in her partner’s dining room in 1986, it has doubled in size every four to five years. Today Heinfeld Meech has 80 employees and offices in Tucson, Phoenix, Flagstaff and Albuquerque, and the company is known nationally as an expert in its field.
For Nancy, it all comes down to the human touch. “Many times our job is to tell our clients what they’re doing wrong,” she explains. “But we don’t have to do it in an overbearing way. We go the extra step and help them get on the right path – and our clients always comment on how friendly and fun we are to work with along the way.” The Partner in Charge of Fun also knows it’s plain old good business to be nice.
