If you love numbers and want to be a CPA, Matthew Los has news for you: that’s not enough. Numbers are only part of the story. “If you love numbers AND working with people, you can be great at accounting,” he says.

Matthew’s job as a senior accountant keeps him in close contact with clients, colleagues and others. “The CPA profession is not one where you’re stuck behind a desk all day – you have to go out and learn about your clients to help them plan and budget for the future,” he says.

That’s one of the reasons Matthew loves being a CPA. “Every day is different,” he says. “Some days I am out in the field, working on audits, and others I’m getting a tour of a client’s manufacturing floor.”

“You’re always learning,” Matthew says. “Someone’s always going to ask you a question where you’re going to have to go out and find the answer. The profession will challenge you so that you don’t feel you’re doing meaningless work.”

When he’s not working or hanging out with his dogs, Matthew is busy as a board director at a local theater and loves to travel. And if you really want to get to know him, ask about his infamous dance moves.
