Would you like a key that opens any door in any career you are interested in?
Well according to Keira Kraft, becoming a CPA does just that. “Being a CPA ensures you will always have a job—and a good paying one at that,” she says. “Those letters after your name will open doors in any field of business you are interested in.”
Right after high school, Keira went to New York University to double major in accounting and finance. To help build her resume, Keira spent every summer during her college years interning. After her freshman year she was a bank teller, after her sophomore year she interned at Morgan Stanley and after her junior year she interned at Ernst & Young (a large public accounting firm). “These experiences helped get me my first job,” Keira says.
After graduation, Ernst & Young hired Keira full time. While she was there, she moved her way up to manager and she worked in three of their offices around the world—Manhattan, Sydney, Australia and Raleigh, NC.
Now Keira’s at the AICPA and spends most of her day working on “numerous publications for accountants and auditors,” she says. “There are also opportunities for public speaking at different organizations and events and to participate in specific projects.”
So when you’re on the search for that perfect career that will let you be just about anything you want to be, remember Keria’s words of advice: “The marketplace is always looking for accountants.”
