Senior Technical Manager
AICPA (that's us)
Durham, NC
Kayla Briggs went from being a bookkeeper for her father’s business to snagging a job at a large global company and traveling all over the world.
While she was there, Kayla held various positions, including internal auditing, accounting policy development, financial reporting and being a coach in the Global Financial Leadership Development Program, where she got to travel to Europe and Asia.
Then Kayla accepted a job to work for the American Institute for Certified Public Accountants as the Competency Champion. (That’s a pretty cool job title huh?) Now, Kayla works with “AICPA teams and members developing competency models where members can complete a self-assessment and learning plan for their career and professional development.”
As a CPA, Kayla’s day-to-day work is never the same. “I am involved in a number of projects,” she says. She works on several different task forces, where she helps “members in business, industry and government with their career and professional development opportunities.”
Even though she works hard every day, Kayla makes sure to save some time for having fun too. “I love to travel and meet people all over the world,” she says. “I also love ethnic cooking and hiking. I’m going to try kayaking next.”
So if you’re interested in traveling the world, or even just the variety of exploring different career options, Kayla suggests becoming a CPA. “Having the CPA credential will travel,” she says. “This means you can work at any size company and in any industry and even your own company!”
