Joel Olbricht’s path changed forever when he discovered he had a talent for managing people and business while managing a gas station in Texas during his college years. His skills soon got him into the accounting aspects of the business.
“I started to love accounting so much, I changed my major and entered the accounting program,” he says
Joel never looked back. “I love to be involved in clients’ lives and understand their life and the issues they try to deal with,” he says. ”This has made it easy to build a great tax CPA practice.”
It’s always active around Joel’s office. You’ll find him in a colorful Jerry Garcia tie, working with staff on projects or working with clients to better understand their finances and tax liabilities. You’ve got to be able to interact with clients and community leaders, and “leave people feeling better than when our conversation started,” Joel says.
For students interested in the CPA profession, Joel says, “The general public trusts a CPA above all other professionals, and being respected is a plus in any relationship. Financial knowledge is a skill that others look up to and few have.” Who wouldn’t want a career where you always feel respected?
So when Joel is not interacting with community and state policy-makers, he can be found firing up his Louisiana Smoker and smoking ribs and brisket – no colorful ties needed.
