Jerry Levens is a superstar. He might not be on the covers of magazines or in the movies, but as a CPA, Jerry certainly is an idol in the business world.
At 21, he passed the CPA exam and went to work as a staff accountant for a large regional firm for six years. Now Jerry’s a partner at a local firm, and even has his name on the door.
He became successful by learning to balance his time between managing the firm, communicating with clients and doing final reviews of client deliverables.
“Management of the organization is like the ‘head coach,’” Jerry says. “The CPA serves in a critical role to gather, interpret and monitor information to provide it to the ‘coach’ in order to run the organization more effectively.”
But Jerry doesn’t only excel in his work in the office, he shines his community too. He is actively involved in “the accounting profession, civic affairs, community projects, and church leadership.” Jerry’s so outstanding that in 1995 he was recognized with the Public Service Award for all CPAs in Mississippi.
Even though Jerry has reached CPA stardom, he recognizes that it can take some time to get there. “Everyone in high school is struggling with some insecurity and it is all well hidden,” Jerry says. “Believe in yourself, be confident and be yourself.”
So, want to become a superstar too? Study hard, stay involved in your community and think about becoming a CPA. Maybe one day, you too will get your name on the door of a successful company.
