Senior Accountant
Alcon Laboratories
Arlington, TX

After four years of writing Senate speeches, helping important laws get passed, and managing highly confidential government files, Jason Lundell decided to make a switch. As a staffer in the US Senate, he was known as the “numbers guy” because of his ability to see things in numbers that others couldn’t. “Plus, I was becoming more interested in business and economics,” he says.

“I decided to go back to grad school to focus on accounting,” Jason says. “Then I’d get my CPA license and start work for a big accounting firm.” You can’t say he’s not a good planner – because that’s exactly what he did.

Now, after spending two years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, he works for Alcon, a company that makes solutions for people who wear contacts. At Alcon, Jason is responsible for tracking hundreds of millions of dollars of the company’s investments and other critical accounting tasks.

Jason admits that he had the wrong idea about accountants before he decided to become one. “I always thought they were introverted geeks who loved math equations and tax forms,” he says. “That couldn’t be further from the truth. The people I work with are social, smart, talented and easygoing.”

And Jason’s proud to be one of them.
