Janis Parthun

Senior Technical Manager - IT
AICPA (that's us)
Durham, NC

For some people – like Janis Parthun – things just seem to fall into place.

"I decided to major in accounting because I was a quick learner with numbers and math in high school and college," she remembers. "I found the accounting courses easy to understand and learn."

She also found out about all the career avenues you can take once you master the basic concepts of accounting, and that has led to her eight years (and counting) as a CPA, including her current position as Senior Technical Manager at the AICPA.

She and her husband like traveling, trying new restaurants and making home improvements. They're currently in the process of refurbishing their home. That'll make anyone feel a little charmed.

So it's not surprising that Janis' advice to students hoping to follow in her happy footsteps is simple, straightforward and positive: "Accounting is a great foundation to start a career," she says. "You can learn the ins and outs of a company through its financials and information systems." And you can bet, at least if you’re a senior tech manager like Janis, that it will all fit together perfectly.
