Senior Technical Manager
AICPA (that's us)
New York, NY
Hiram Hasty found his calling in high school. He took one bookkeeping class, enjoyed it and decided to pursue a career in the accounting field. The class showed him that “a CPA has many career paths,” not just bookkeeping.
After graduating from college, Hiram worked in public accounting for two Big 4 firms before taking a job with the American Institute of CPAs as a Technical Manager in the SEC Practice Section.
Then in 2004, he moved to the Audit & Attest team, which supports the standards setting activities of the Auditing Standards Board of the AICPA. “In standard setting, I've worked with many leaders of the profession,” he says. “They include auditing professionals here in the United States, but also from many countries around the world.”
According to Hiram, a career as a CPA will provide you with the best breadth of knowledge in developing you as a business person. “This will provide you with the opportunity to pursue a very rewarding career either in accounting or elsewhere,” he says. “Equally important, it will allow you to meet many intelligent and successful people along the way with whom you can form lasting business and personal relationships.”
And Hiram finds his career very rewarding. “I enjoy the fact that I participate in the efforts to make our profession better, which, in turn, helps facilitate the capital markets.”
