It all started when she changed her mind. Heather Losi changed her major to accounting right before college—she had planned to major in business administration, but liked the broader array of things she could do as a CPA—and never looked back. Now with only eight years as a CPA and already a Partner at her firm, you could say that Heather Losi kicks butt. You could say she kicks it more literally, too, as a martial artist with 17 years of experience.

She’s never had to break out a roundhouse kick in any business meetings – so far – but remember, she’s still got a lot of career ahead of her. What would happen if, say, a team of ninjas swarmed into the boardroom and took the client captive, just as everyone was about to go over quarterly earnings? Heather would be the one you’d want sitting next to you.

(She actually has the opportunity to put the smack down at all sorts of meetings, since she also serves on various organizations and committees. And she’s also a representative on a statewide board for a society of CPAs, so there can be butt-kicking almost anywhere, at any time.)

Whatever arises, Heather’s ready. In fact, since it prepares you for anything, you could look at CPA certification as being the “black belt” of business degrees. As Heather says, “There are so many situations and opportunities that demand the skill set possessed by CPAs,” she says. And she advises students to get a head start by taking advantage of every internship opportunity they can.

“Go this route, and you will have no trouble finding a job, ever,” according to Heather. And not just because people are scared to turn you down.
