Gina Chironis has used her CPA qualification to take her life full circle – and that’s exactly how she wanted it.

In college, Gina was attracted to accounting because of the integrity of the profession. “The CPA profession is respected around the world for its pursuit of excellence and integrity,” she says. After graduating with a degree in Finance and Accounting, she moved to New York City, passed the CPA exam and got a high-flying job in public accounting with KPMG, one of the Big 4 public accounting firms. “I loved the work – very exciting, lots of travel, surrounded by smart people,” she says. She took a break from public accounting while raising her kids, using her CPA background and her MBA to become a consultant.

Now that her children are grown, what’s she doing? “I returned to full-time accounting,” she says. “And now I own my own firm. Our work here is highly personal – we help clients sort through the distractions to focus on what’s important to them, both professionally and personally.” Running her own company gives her the flexibility she loved from her years as a consultant. And she was able to return to her first love – public accounting. Full circle.

If you’re considering becoming a CPA, Gina says she shouldn’t have to work too hard to convince you. “If you’d like to earn six figures, work for yourself, take lots of vacation time in the summer and be a respected member of the community while also having the time and flexibility to raise a family, being a CPA is the way to go,” she says. Who could argue with that?
