Dwayne Sollenberger, President of Sollenberger Accounting, LLC wants to share a little *life* advice.
“Read ‘Critical Chain’ by Eliyahu M. Goldratt,” he says. “It reshaped my thinking.” According to Dwayne, the book is about “doing the essential things ... and those alone.” Not turning in a 50-page paper when the teacher only asked for a short summary, and not overachieving just for the sake of overachievement. That way, you accomplish all the important stuff and don’t forget about the other important stuff, like family, health and fun.
These days Dwayne has great balance in his priorities and still seems to achieve a lot too. In addition to enjoying life with his wife and kids, and volunteering with the local Rotary club, he’s serving as interim controller for one of his former firm’s clients. “Very fun,” he says. Dwayne also spends a lot of time interacting with clients, one of his passions. “I care deeply for my clients – both from a business standpoint and as people,” he says. “We're all in this together, right?”
Right. So if you’re in the mood to take a little life advice along with some career tips, Dwayne is happy to share what he enjoys about accounting: “The people. The creativity. The opportunity to solve challenges every day.”
