David Campbell

Senior Manager - Financial Operations
AICPA (that's us)
Durham, NC

Batter up! In the office, David Campbell may be a Senior Manager of Financial Operations at the AICPA, but he's also on a traveling fast-pitch softball team that goes to tournaments all summer long. Right away you can tell that David likes playing different positions – he raves about all "the different hats I can wear in a single day" – but he has another motive for getting into this business too: Fun.

"Each day's goals and tasks can be very different from the next," David says, but it always comes down to "thinking, leading, advising, asking for advice, mentoring, being mentored…" and the way he sees it, "That's all fun."

Also fun is the setting where he does all this thinking, leading, advising and fielding fly balls. "Growing up in Pennsylvania, I saw a lifetime of snow in my first 22 years," he remembers. "My wife and I used our business/accounting degrees, packed our suitcases and headed to North Carolina."

Now he gets a longer softball season, and he gets to lead a volunteer group that partners with a local high school. Again, fun.

And like a great base coach, David has some wise guidance for you too: "Start with that first accounting class," (in other words, get on base.) "If you like that," he says, "don't stop," (round second) because "with the accounting degree…" (triple) "…and CPA certification…" (home run) "…You'll have a leg up in any field."
