Go ahead and sit down. Carman Smith may be a busy Senior Accountant for a successful firm, but she’s still got plenty of time to catch up and chat.
“People think that accountants are always chained to their desks,” she says. “I’ve actually heard it’s not a good career for women who want a family or a good work/life balance. Well, they’re wrong. My firm allows for a great balance, and I certainly don’t mind having more vacation time than most of my friends outside the field.”
Carman makes the most of the flexible schedule her CPA certification allows. “Tax season is a little hectic, yes, but remember there’s a whole lot of year left after that.”
In the summer, she’s active enough to wear you out just reading about it: Running 10Ks, riding horses, getting out on the water, playing a few rounds of golf…
“I love my job anyway, so all the time-off I get is just icing on the cake.”
Enjoy your cake and its icing, Carman. Goodness knows she’ll be burning off the calories soon enough.
