Butch Hogan

Chief Financial Officer
Simmons Homes
Tulsa, OK

His title may be Chief Financial Officer, but you can just call Butch Hogan the Chief Roadie.

“Being a CPA is more like being the roadie for a band than it is about doing stuff like bank reconciliations,” Butch says. “You have to make the most of opportunities and unexpected challenges as they pop up, whether it’s about technology, or people, any other aspect of the job.”

Butch thrives in the chaos of his environment. “I may walk into work in the morning with a clear plan for what I’m doing that day, but the whole thing has changed by the time I finally have a chance to get a cup of coffee,” he says. “I’ll have messages from people working late night, or early birds. Before I get started, I’ve probably talked to a mix of bankers, department managers, insurance brokers, other CPAs, you name it.”

Butch’s company builds homes, which opened the door to a unique opportunity to put his knack for managing chaos to work. He was the volunteer coordinator for two episodes of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. It was a job that would have made any roadie proud.
