CPA WITH MBA

CPA with MBA: Extra-punch or just extraneous?

There's no easy answer. Getting an MBA along with CPA certification is usually not required (or expected) from employers—but it could help in the long run, depending on what exactly you want to accomplish. Having both an MBA and CPA is seen as a bonus to employers, and can help you negotiate a higher salary. However, at almost any public accounting firm, the one fundamental job qualification remains the same: CPA certification (or your intention to obtain it). If you're up for a challenging and rewarding career in accounting, make sure getting an MBA does not interfere with passing the CPA exam.

If you can afford to invest time and money into getting an MBA, it may be a great opportunity to expand on the skills you'll pick up studying or practicing accounting and business. The 150-hours of college education that most states require before taking the CPA exam has also led more accounting grads to go for a master's degree. But by planning your courses with an advanced degree in mind, it's possible to take care of all the required credits in undergraduate. So for many, the decision to get an MBA may come down to personal goals vs. industry trends.
