AICPA History and Background

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is the premier national professional association, representing roughly 340,000 CPAs in business, public practice, government and education. The AICPA is divided between the national headquarters in New York City and other offices in Durham, NC; Washington, DC; Ewing, NJ; and Lewisville, TX.

The AICPA represents CPAs nationally, and is active in some standard setting, legislation, communication, recruitment, and the development of continuing educational materials and curriculum for the CPA profession.

The mission of the AICPA is to provide members with the resources, information and leadership that will enable them to provide valuable services in the most professional manner. Together, the members and staff of the AICPA combine to provide a powerful force of ideas, opportunities and solutions designed to help all CPAs.

Student Membership

The AICPA Student Affiliate Membership is designed to help aspiring CPAs learn firsthand about the CPA profession, and discover the unlimited career opportunities available. Students and recent college graduates will have access to a lot of the same information that CPAs use on the job, so they can learn about the latest trends and most valuable career opportunities in business and accounting.

You can find an AICPA Student Affiliate Membership application online. To apply for the Student Affiliate Membership, please print, complete and mail the application to the address included.
